Pall-Ex celebrates 20th anniversary

Pall-Ex, the palletised freight network founded by acclaimed entrepreneur Hilary Devey CBE, is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

Since shifting 117 pallets on the first night on 29 November 1996, Pall-Ex has grown to a network that distributes over 10,000 pallets every single night, with partnerships established across Europe in Italy, Spain, Portugal, Romania, France and the Benelux region. 

Bridgestone scoops tyre manufacturer of the year award for second year running

Tyre and rubber company Bridgestone is celebrating back-to-back tyre manufacturer of the year titles after winning the National Tyre Distributors Association’s headline award for a second successive year as well as a staff training and development accolade.
Bridgestone’s Managing Director Robin Shaw said: “We are so proud to win the NTDA’s Tyre Manufacturer of the Year award for 2016, after also triumphing 12 months ago in the same category.

Avro RJ jetliner in line to switch from passenger to freight service

BAE Systems Regional Aircraft is considering launching a passenger-to-freight conversion programme for the Avro RJ jetliner. The UK-based company is seeking customer feedback to help assess market potential.

The versatile RJ100 aircraft, which is capable of desert and unpaved runway operations, is beginning to come out of passenger service, so will be available from the end of 2017 for this conversion. The average price for this aircraft is between US $ 1-1.5 million and the freighter kit and conversion would cost between US$ 2.2 and 2.8 million. 

London Gateway to be supported by Hireco

One of the UK’s largest truck and trailer specialists is to work with DP World London Gateway to provide a support service to the UK’s newest deep-sea container terminal and its adjacent logistics park.

Hireco, a maintenance specialist for road haulage, will provide facilities for road hauliers using the logistics park with onsite ancillary services for their fleets, reducing transport costs and hauliers’ impacts on the environment.

UPS shatters goal of driving 1 billion cleaner miles

Global logistics company UPS has showed its commitment to sustainability by meeting the goal of driving one billion miles using alternative fuel – more than a year earlier than its aim. The 7,200 vehicles in its ‘Rolling Laboratory’ fleet have replaced 12% of diesel and petrol with alternative fuels, which include renewable natural gas and renewable diesel for its ground fleet.

L&R Roadlines supports BBC's Children in Need at CarFest North

One of the UK’s largest road surfacing contractors provided new track markings for CarFest North, the annual event founded by TV presenter Chris Evans to support BBC’s Children in Need. 

L&R Roadlines installed around 2.5km of temporary edge lines to provide a visual guide for drivers of some of the world’s most exotic supercars at the event in Cheshire in July.  Since its first edition in 2012 it has attracted over 337,000 visitors and raised more than £6 million.

Loyalty to Mercedes-Benz continues on SR Transport’s silver anniversary

A UK-based transport service has celebrated its 25th anniversary with the purchase of two new Mercedes-Benz vans from dealer Bell Truck and Van.

SR Transport unveiled a new Sprinter and a Vito to add to its collection and tradition of only owning Mercedes-Benz vehicles. The company operates 10,000 sq ft of warehousing and specialises in fast delivery to locations in the UK and Europe.

Retail chain supply expert joins London Gateway

DP World London Gateway’s logistics park has appointed Dean Hawkridge, a former senior supply chain director of Travis Perkins, as its new head of commercial. 

Hawkridge, who in a career spanning almost 30 years has held similar roles at B&Q, Woolworths, Poundstretcher and Burton, said: “I'm very much looking forward to joining the team at DP World London Gateway.  Together, we can deliver real value and competitive advantage into the marketplace, for the logistics park’s existing and prospective customers.”

Mersey Maritime celebrates record membership level

A leading UK maritime organisation has reported record growth levels for 2016, with over 200 businesses joining the trade group for the first time.

Mersey Maritime, representative body for the maritime sector in the Liverpool City Region, has developed a reputation as one of Europe’s most successful maritime cluster organisations. So far in 2016, a total of 23 businesses have become joined the not-for-profit organisation, taking the membership to 203.
