More than 200 professionals from across the logistics industry gathered in Telford recently to discuss the skills and training challenges facing the sector at the Talent in Logistics Conference.
The conference event was organised by Capitb, owner of workplace transport training regulatory body RTITB and the new National Register of LGV Instructors (NRI), and included seminars and an exhibition as well as an awards dinner in the evening.

Shining and rising stars from the UK and Ireland logistics sector were recently acknowledged at the inaugural Talent in Logistics Awards.
The event, which was held at the Telford International Centre, was hosted by stand-up comedian and star of BBC One sitcom Not Going Out, Tim Vine.
As well as recognising those who train, lead and inspire frontline logistics and transport staff, the Talent in Logistics Awards also reward those who can often feel undervalued and unimportant in the workplace.

The Committee on Climate Change’s latest report to Parliament on progress towards reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions shows that there is still much work to do to get significant carbon reduction from the freight sector but the Freight Transport Association (FTA) says more rapid change will only come with more Government support.

The British International Freight Association has added a culinary touch to its annual Freight Service Awards event as this year's competition opens for entries.
BIFA's Director General, Robert Keen has revealed that the celebrity host for the awards ceremony, which takes place on January 18 2018, will be entrepreneur and musician Levi Roots.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has launched its annual Driver of the Year contest with two new additions. This year the competition is open to all drivers, not just FTA members, and there is a new category to recognise the Young Driver of the Year.

The Freight Transport Association (FTA) has launched a new solution to help operators achieve the required standard to comply with the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency’s (DVSA) long-awaited Earned Recognition pilot scheme.
Under the scheme, where HGV operators can earn the right to be checked less frequentlly, operators must have their compliance systems audited by a DVSA-approved auditor, sharing data on vehicle roadworthiness, other work undertaken by drivers and drivers’ hours.

Former Minister of State for Trade and Investment Lord Green of Hurstpierpoint has been appointed as President of the Institute of Export & International Trade (IOE&IT).
As trade minister from 2011 to 2013, Lord Green’s remit encompassed promoting UK industry overseas as government spokesman in the Lords for both the former Department for Business, Innovation and Skills and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. Lord Green was Chairman of HSBC Holdings from 2006 until 2010.

Heathrow has renewed its calls on the Government to ensure independent regulation of the airport’s expansion air quality plans to guarantee Heathrow meets its commitments to the public.
It follows the publication of the Government’s draft National Policy Statement last week which outlines the legal requirements the airport will need to meet to gain development consent.
