Additional ECMT permits allocated

Additional ECMT permits allocated

The UK has been granted additional European Conference of Ministers of Transport (ECMT) permits, some of which will be made  available to Euro V vehicles, the Department for Transport has confirmed.

There will be a new application window to apply for these additional permits. It will open tomorow and will run until midnight on 16 March.

The Government said it remains confident that hauliers will be able to operate across the EU without the need for permits, even in the  event of no-deal, but that ECMT permits remain a part of no-deal contingency plans.

A DfT statement said: "The UK has recently been granted additional ECMT permits and we will be allocating these shortly. We will also be making some of the additional allocation available to Euro V vehicles – a new application window for these will open on 5 March until 23:59 on 16 March."

Hauliers must also register commercial trailers to drive in the EU from 28 March 2019 – this is mandatory regardless of whether the UK leaves the EU with or without a deal. Hauliers can register trailers at www.gov.uk/euexitdriving
