Buffaload double-deck concept the ideal choice for apetito

apetito, the UK’s leading provider of frozen meals to hospitals, care homes and local authorities, has added a double-deck temperature controlled trailer from Buffaload Logistics to its vehicle fleet.

The company delivers picked frozen food orders from its National Distribution Centre in Royal Portbury Dock in Avonmouth to five Regional Distribution Centres every evening for cross docking and radial distribution to their customers.

Over the busy Christmas period the company took delivery of a double-deck trailer from Buffaload on a rental basis to accommodate increased capacity requirements and reduce demand on its already heavily utilised existing fleet.

“We were one of the early users of the double-deck trailer concept and our first commissioned 20 years ago.  Currently we have six Gray & Adams double-deck reefer trailers in our fleet and the savings they bring are undeniable,” explains Daniel Paull, apetito’s Distribution Manager.

“The high volume 78 roll cage or 40 pallet capacity means that we can effectively use one trailer to trunk to a regional distribution centre, whereas using conventional single decks would require two tractors and trailers and therefore twice as much fuel.”

“Our job is to ensure that the product reaches our customers in perfect condition, on time and as efficiently as possible.  To this end, these double-deck trailers play an important role: temperatures are constant, down-time is low and costs are kept to a minimum.

“We are happy to report that continually increasing demand has meant that we have just added another two double-deckers to our fleet, again on long-term rental from Buffaload, who have given us exceptional service.
