GEFCO has been named as the winner of the Rail Company Award at the prestigious Automotive Supply Chain Global Awards for its experienced and innovative approach in the sector.

The award recognises GEFCO’s work with MAN, the leading German manufacturer of trucks, buses and other commercial vehicles.  GEFCO provided the delivery of vehicles to MAN’s new Uzbekistan plant from Austria and Germany.  The company benefited from a transit time of 29 days from the date of departure from the European plants to the destination terminal for single wagons and just 19 days for a block train.

MAN also required access to the local markets in Uzbekistan and a logistics provider that could manage their large volume variations.  GEFCO provided a multimodal solution for MAN, designed and operated from plants in Germany and Austria to Uzbekistan.  These solutions met all of the customer’s requirements and were delivered ahead of time and within budget.

With GEFCO’s access to 200 European lines, 4,000 rail wagons and with its new shareholder RZD, GEFCO has the easiest access to the Russian network and equipment.  Combined with daily tracking of containers and no minimum volume requirements for train departures, it is ideally placed to meet its customers’ needs in this area.

One of the Automotive Supply Chain Global Awards’ judges stated: “Within the rail industry GEFCO has provided vitally important efficiency and optimisation of services to customers through its existing relationships, partnerships and investment in infrastructure.”

Charlie Weale, GEFCO’s Sales and Marketing Director, said of the award: “We are delighted to have been recognised as a leader in rail transport with this impressive award, an opportunity as it was to demonstrate our rail capability as a group.

“We believe passionately in improving efficiency and optimising service to meet the specific needs of our customers across their supply chain.  We are very proud of our global network and our ability to provide a flexible, reliable and consultative service offering to our customers.”
