Industry co-operation and recruitment to feature prominently at Multimodal 2019
Multimodal 2019, the largest logistics show in the UK that brings together all the sectors in the supply chain, will feature speakers from CILT to share their knowledge and expertise on the topics of industry co-operation and recruitment.
The challenges and opportunities facing businesses across the supply chain post-Brexit, plus the growth of new technological solutions, will also feature prominently at Multimodal 2019, taking place at the Birmingham NEC between 18-20 June.
Speakers from CILT will appear on panels at the show where more than 300 exhibitors and over 9,000 visitors are expected to attend.
Sue Terpilowski OBE, Chairman of the Ports, Maritime and Waterways Forum of CILT will be speaking at a surgery session which covers supply chain co-operation and navigating the industry’s changing landscape.
Multimodal day three seminars are dedicated to recruitment, retainment and new talent, and Bethany Fovargue, Operations Manager NOVUS, CILT, will be on the panel discussion Why Logistics? where speakers will consider how to attract the next generation of logistics leaders.
Other topics featuring on the seminar programme include the growing labour crisis, the transformational effects of AI and robots on logistics, and the Fifth Industrial Revolution, where machines and humans increasingly collaborate.
“From Brexit, to the growing labour crisis, as well as rapid technological advances, we are entering a brave new world for the logistics industry and stakeholders should be doing all they can to prepare,” said Robert Jervis, Logistics Portfolio Director of Clarion Events.
“We have dedicated an entire day to the topic of recruitment, development, and retention of new staff, to give employers the opportunity to hear directly from recruitment experts on how to successfully get the next generation involved in the logistics and transport industry.”
As the UK and Ireland’s largest logistics exhibition, Multimodal hosts hundreds of exhibitors including leading logistics service providers, ONE, Cosco Shipping Lines (UK) Ltd, Associated British Ports, Samskip, Jigsaw Transport, and many more.
Other associations joining CILT at Multimodal include the Freight Transport Association (FTA), the British International Freight Association (BIFA) and the United Kingdom Warehousing Association (UKWA).
Additionally, Jeremy Nixon, CEO of Ocean Network Express (ONE) will kick off a panel at Multimodal 2019 with a keynote speech on Tuesday 18 June 2019, sharing his outlook for the liner shipping industry.
Nixon oversaw the merger of three Japanese shipping firms to become ONE, creating an entirely new brand and business that is now one of the biggest shipping lines in the world.
“Liner shipping faces many global challenges, but is rapidly evolving,” said Nixon.
“ONE has come a long way since commencing operations a little over a year ago, and I am looking forward to taking the podium and sharing my experience and participating in the discussions at Multimodal 2019.”
A highlight of the show is the FTA Multimodal Awards which recognise the best in class across the industry, in categories for Shipper of the Year and Young Logistics Professional of the Year, as well as the Multimodal Personality of the Year Award, among others.
The winners will be announced on 18 June 2019 at a gala dinner and awards ceremony which this year is hosted by snooker legend, Steve Davis (pictured above), and takes place on the first day of the Multimodal show.
“The FTA Multimodal Awards night is an important event at Multimodal and provides a platform to recognise outstanding achievements in the industry, while championing young professionals, and highlighting innovation and good practice,” said Jervis.
Once again, Freight Industry Times will be exhibiting at Multimodal. Please do visit Stand 4077 if you are attending the show.
