Go ahead for Airport City Manchester’s ALPHA logistics development

Construction of a new 130,000 sq ft logistics facility at Airport City Manchester is expected to start within weeks, after the scheme received planning permission.  When it becomes operational in early 2016 the project is expected to create up to 125 jobs.

Known as ALPHA, the new £15 million hub will meet the growing demand for small to medium logistics units.  Being located alongside the airport’s existing cargo centre and Junction 6 of the M56 Motorway, it is ideally placed to serve the demands of fast paced logistics delivery.

The new facility will offer units from 17,500 to 35,000 sq ft arranged in a single terrace – each unit will feature bespoke office space and have its own fenced and gated yard with dedicated car parking and HGV delivery access.

Lynda Shillaw, Manchester Airport Group’s Divisional Property CEO, said: “We are seeing healthy demand for logistics property at Airport City and the ALPHA development is an exciting addition to the range of products available to occupiers.

“ALPHA has an unrivalled location at Manchester Airport, with direct links to over 210 global destinations and with great access to the UK’s motorway network, enabling rapid movement of goods to market across the country.

As part of the Government-designated Enterprise Zone for Greater Manchester, Airport City’s Global Logistics site will eventually create 1,800 jobs.  Outline planning permission for the development of 1.4 million sq ft of logistics space and 36.6 acres of landscaping was granted by the local authority in November 2012.
