PEMA and ICHCA join forces on sustainability and safety

International maritime industry groups forge partnership to promote sustainability and safety in the cargo handling sector.

In a move aimed at enhancing sustainability and safety standards within the maritime cargo handling sector, two prominent international organisations, PEMA (Port Equipment Manufacturers Association) and ICHCA International, have entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

PEMA serves as a global advocate and public voice for the port equipment and technology sectors, while ICHCA International is a not-for-profit entity dedicated to elevating safety, productivity, and efficiency in cargo handling and movement on a global scale.

The collaboration will provide a structured platform for both organisations to achieve their shared goals. This partnership will encompass a range of cooperative initiatives, including agreed-upon actions, regular meetings, information sharing, and the formation of ad hoc task forces. These efforts will serve to amplify their impact on issues of mutual interest.

While the MoU does not entail financial commitments, it lays the groundwork for future cooperation that will enable each group to leverage collective activities within their respective strategies. This cooperation will contribute to a broader understanding of areas where mutual interests align.

Achim Dries, President of PEMA, expressed his enthusiasm for the partnership, stating: "This marks a significant step towards fostering greater collaboration and innovation within the maritime industry. This partnership underscores our commitment to advancing the global port and terminal sector. Together with ICHCA, we are poised to harness collective expertise, drive sustainable practices, and elevate safety standards for the benefit of our industry stakeholders. This MoU signifies not only a union of two influential organisations but also a shared vision to shape the future of safer port equipment and operations. We look forward to strengthening this partnership and achieving remarkable milestones together."

Richard Steele, CEO of ICHCA, echoed this sentiment: "At ICHCA, we remain committed to our efforts to improve safety, security, and sustainability in the global logistics supply chain, especially at the ship/port interface. I believe our agreement with PEMA will significantly enhance our ability to deliver on that commitment. The mutual cooperation between our two organisations will aim for universal understanding and application of measures for safe handling. I am particularly pleased that ICHCA is now teaming up with such a highly respected organisation as PEMA, one that has a global reputation for passionate commitment and practical action to drive safety measures. I'm excited about the prospect of working together."

A pivotal aspect of the MoU will be the exchange of information and collaboration among staff and association members. These individuals possess a wealth of professional expertise that can serve as a valuable source of knowledge for promoting best practices and improved standards throughout the global maritime industry.
