Maersk expands warehouse offering in UK

Danish logistics firm signs lease for 685,000 sq facility at SEGRO Logistics Park East Midlands Gateway, adding to its existing network of warehouses in Doncaster, Tamworth and Kettering.

The new facility is part of a 700-acre development by SEGRO, which includes the UK's only inland freeport and a 50-acre Strategic Rail Freight Interchange (SRFI) with direct rail links to major seaports. The warehouse is designed to meet low GHG emissions standards and will feature a roof-mounted PV array, recycled construction materials, and provisions for a fully electric fleet of HGV vehicles.

Maersk plans to use EV trucks to manage internal traffic and final deliveries of cargo. By expanding its contract logistics facilities, Maersk is offering a wider range of services to customers, with integrated logistics solutions available in more than 450 warehouses globally, with additional warehouses set to open in Europe in 2023 and 2024.

Paul Woolass, Head of Logistics and Services Products UK & Ireland, said: “The East Midlands Gateway campus is very much the perfect blueprint for optimising connectivity and flexibility within supply chains. Not only is it ideally positioned in the UK, but the vast infrastructure and cutting-edge technology across the site means operations on UK shores can be done from one place in the most sustainable way possible. It’s the epitome of two of Maersk’s key visions for the future: integrating logistics and reaching net-zero emissions by 2040.”
